A handicap bus is a long-distance bus with its usual comforts, but also offering a safe travel opportunity for a passenger in a wheelchair. In this bus, there is always a place for one wheelchair.
Timetable
We have three handicap buses which can be used to travel to almost everywhere ordinary SEBE intercity lines go. That means we can send a handicap bus on whichever line the disabled passenger needs, for example from Tallinn to Narva or Haapsalu, from Tartu to Pärnu or Rakvere. One only has to inform us early on about the wish.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to use a handicap bus for departures on the line 724, because the Hourly Express is served by larger buses. In addition to that, it is difficult to use handicap buses if the departing bus is not located in Tallinn, Tartu or Võru. For that reason it is important to always inform us early on about your wish to travel. Our traffic managers will give you fast feedback on the possibility of this trip and, if necessary, offer alternative possibilities.
Ticket
A passenger with a wheelchair must have a ticket. Disabled children and people who are 16 years of age and older, but with a profound disability, can travel for free. Travelling for free is granted on the basis of a supporting document confirming the eligibility for this benefit.
Well-trained bus drivers
Drivers have been trained to assist people with reduced mobility and to handle wheelchair lifts, as well as having practiced economic and smooth driving.
Booking
A wheelchair place has to be booked at least 72 hours (3 full days) in advance of the wished departure. In order to book a place, we need to know the passenger's name, phone number, wheelchair type, need for an ordinary bus seat, presence of an escort as well as the trip's departure and arrival stops.
Bookings are accepted by e-mail at ratastoolibuss@sebe.ee
If the passenger's plans change and he or she does not wish to use the booked service, we kindly ask you to inform us about that at the same aforementioned e-mail address. If that is not done, it can mean denial of travel possibility for another handicapped person.
Using the wheelchair lift
Wheelchair lift is located either at the middle door of the bus or at the rear. In order to help the passenger into the bus, the driver opens the door, sets the lift ready and lifts the passenger to the right level. The driver will take the wheelchair to the right place, where it is fastened to the bus floor from two or four points. The passenger in a wheelchair will also be fastened with a seat belt.
